Bayswater W2

W2 offers a huge range of interesting sights and activities and boasts a large number of green spaces. Some of the more impressive green squares in W2 include: Hyde Park Gardens, Norfolk Square Gardens, Oxford Square Gardens, Porchester SquareGardens, Princes Square Gardens, Talbot Square Gardens, Sussex Gardens and Leicester Square Gardens. These spaces provide a calm oasis in an otherwise busy and noisy area of London. Many of these squares are surrounded by impressive, large properties. It is still possible to visit the laboratory where Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin inside St. Mary's Hospital on Praed Street. The lab has been reconstructed to how it would have looked in 1928, at the time of the breakthrough and the museum includes displays and videos. Little Venice describes the area surrounding where the Grand Union Canal meets the Regents Canal. This beautiful area offers barge tours along the waterways, and has a number of cafes, pubs and restaurants nearby, making it a popular tourist destination. The Canal Cafe Theatre, on the Grand Union Canal, is a popular London fringe theatre, showing comedy throughout the week. Unsurprisingly, Little Venice has become a highly desired location in which to live, with many 17th century white stucco properties nearby.Other places of interest in W2 include Paddington Library (which also hosts art exhibitions), which be found on Porchester Road. This library consists of two impressive buildings, one of which is dedicated solely to children's books. Paddington Railway Station can also be found in W2 and is one of the busiest railway stations in London, with 14 terminal platforms. The Porchester Centre on Queensway provides fitness facilities to the general public. Facilities include a gymnasium, a spa, a swimming pool and a sports hall. W2 is well placed for shopping, eating out and entertainment. Whiteleys Shopping Centre on Queensway is worth a visit, as it is the largest shopping centre in Central London and has a range of different facilities under one roof.
