About Elemis SpaPod at Harvey Nichols in Birmingham

I was treated to a hot stone massage by my sister and was looking forward to a relaxing visit to the spa. The Mailbox has an impressive reputation and Elemis is a brand which I was unfamiliar with but I had heard good things about it. The gift itself, though essentially an 'experience', came beautifully presented in a luxurious box and my sister had hyped the brand so much that I was optimistic about enjoying myself. I couldn't have been more wrong, sadly. The gift included a skin consultation, which I found very interesting. However, the Elemis therapist/sales assistant was was on a mission to sell a range of items to me, rather than simply let me experience my gift. She tried every trick in the book and even explained how she was struggling financially and really needed to improve her sales to make more money! We moved to the spa, which had a relaxing atmostphere, apart from the therapist still whining about a relationship problem she was experiencing, and my hot stone massage began. I've never had this treatment before so I switched off and tried to relax. However, within a few minutes, the therapist dropped the bowl of hot water, letting it spill down my hair, neck and back. I was completely shocked! Very quickly the water went cold, leaving me uncomfortable and tense. The therapist was obviously embarrassed but made no attempt to offer me a towel or ask if she could make me more comfortable. It was terrible. Finally, we left the pod - I still had wet hair - and we proceded back to the Elemis counter. At which point I was practically forced to buy one of the products. In fairness, I was so keen to get out of there that I did it to hasten my exit.In summary, the setting is beautiful but I felt as though my present had been completely ruined. It was some time ago now but I still remember it and wouldn't go back. No doubt that staff will be different these days so perhaps it's worth a try for the spa, which is a relaxing setting. I felt obliged to lie to my sister and tell her that it was fabulous.
