About Brixton Recreation Centre
I have used Brixton Rec for over a year now for the gym facilities. These are well priced and full of discounts. The gym facilities are good; they have all the standard equipment you would need to workout and the staff are always willing to help you sort out a new regime. The weights area is usually full of 'big boys' as my friend and I call them working out which can be a bit intimidating at times, but usually they are willing to move aside from posing to let you use the equipment. They have a smaller gym room upstairs with cardio and weights which is used for ladies evening, but that is only once a week on a Friday; I personally think it should always be open for those wanting a quieter work out! They have a good sized swimmimng pool which is used by local school children so can be quite loud but you can nearly always get some space to swim.The exercise classes are good, if not a bit crowded, and occasionally a bit too hard-core for me (one class involved the instructor jumping around in my face screaming at me when I physically could not push myself any further and I ended up having a pulled muscle as a result! I don't recommend that particular one!) . Generally compared to other local gyms (the big name brand ones, and the ones at local private schools) this gym offers much better value for money, although you do suffer slightly compared to the more expensive ones as it can get a little crowded at times...Worth a look at definately!
