Eltham SE9
The Bob Hope Theatre on Wythfield Road shows a variety of plays and is renowned as being one of the best entertainment venues in SE9. The theatre was named after the actor and comic who was born in the area. The local library (Eltham Library) can be found on Eltham High Street.Chinbrook Meadow offers peace and tranquility to locals and visitors. The green leafy space can be found in the centre of Eltham and is used for walking, relaxing, picnicking and playing. Fairy Hill Park on Crossmead is another green space with a tennis court, basketball court and a children's playground and cycling track. Eltham Palace, run by English Heritage, can be found on Court Yard. It is known for its mix of medieval architecture and 1930s Art Deco style and was built by the textile magnates Stephen and Virginia Courtauld. As well as the house itself, Elham Palace boasts beautiful gardens with moats. The Green Chain Walk is a trail designed to lead visitors through some of the less famous green spaces in London and passes past Eltham Palace. Other historical places of interest are Well Hall Pleasaunce and Tudor Barn on Well Hall Road, where E. Nesbitt, author of The Railway Children, once lived. Severndroog Castle offers many peaceful leafy walks.Eltham Pools on Eltham Hill is the local swimming pool, which also offers a range of gentle exercise classes. Eltham College boasts the Eric Liddell Sports Centre on Mottingham Lane, which is open to the public and offers a range of fitness facilities. Transport in the area is very good, with a number of bus services and railway stations such as Mottingham Railway Station, off Court Road, Eltham Railway Station on Well Hall Road, New Eltham Railway Station off Footscray Road and Falconwood Railway Station on Lingfield Crescent.
