Top Five Hair Updos for Autumn and Winter 2010
It's that time of year again, when summer is coming to an end and its time to start thinking about the style stakes for Autumn and Winter. Luckily the catwalk shows showcase their chosen styles well in advance, giving us plenty of time to umm and ahh over the selection. Here at Secret Salons we have put together our Top Five for A/W 2010, enjoy
1/The Top Knot
These large, messy bundles of hair are one of the looks for the season. At Lanvin the girls wore their top knots high and with a woven texture to make them bigger and bolder than ever. Designers from Christopher Kane to Philip Lim all sported the bun on their catwalks. To get yours invest in a ‘doughnut’ to wind your hair around creating the perfect brushed bun.
2/ The Messy Up Do

For this look use hair that hasn’t been washed for a couple of days, as it is much easier to style. Concentrate on mussing up the hair, rather than backcombing so you can create a bouffant style but not one that you won’t be able to brush out later. The bigger the better really, whatever size you feel most confident with is key as you don’t want to be hiding away under fantastic hair.
3/The Ponytail

This classic updo seems to feature on catwalks every season, with a different variation on how to spruce up your hair. For Autumn and Winter 2010 it’s all about the sleekness, a smooth ponytail to add definition to your outfit.
4/The Dishevelled Chignon

For this season there is a modern take on the classic chignon as it gets all ruffled up on the red carpet and on the catwalks. It a perfect look for days when you need to pin your hair down but also for more civilised affairs. It’s a great look that just involves you gripping the hair at the nape of your neck and teasing pieces free to create the dishevelled look. You can’t really go wrong as long as you keep it looking messy, and low maintenance, however, if your hair hits ‘baglady’ you’ve gone too far!
5/The Curly Up Do

Create a cascade of curls using tongs with extra volume at the roots to add height. Clutch the curls together with grips at the back to create an elegant shape. Let some curls fall loose but this look is all about pretty sophistication.
