Top Ten Beauty Tips for Flying

If you’re heading away this summer, you’ll barely be able to contain your excitement about a relaxing week in the sun. You’ve bought all your essentials, your new ‘holiday’ outfits, so called because you would never wear them in England and your reading material, when it hits you...the plane journey. That necessary precursor to your beautiful holiday that following a long-haul battle with the devilish air con threatens to turn you into a frazzled, drier version of your pre-flight self,. Well we are here to help, here are our top ten tips of how to keep the air con monsters at bay and arrive at your destination ready to dazzle.

1. Wear loose clothes on the plane, you don’t want a tight pair of jeans restricting you on the plane. There is nothing worse than arriving at your holiday destination with ankles the size of an elephants trunk, believe us. It also a good idea to wear dark colours in case there are any pesky spillages. And don’t forget socks if you’re travelling in sandals, and a wrap or cardigan if the air con gets too much.

2. A handy tip to keep circulation moving when you are sitting down is to flex your ankles up and down, as you sit cooped up before your weeks of freedom.

3. Humidity on the planes tends to be a very low 10%, guaranteed to dry your skin out there and back. Using a water rich moisturiser before you travel will help keep your skin fresh and stop it losing moisture. This is particularly important on the way back as you want to keep your hard-earned tan nice and moisturised.

4. If you find yourself drying up during flight ask an air hostess for a couple of ice cubes, these will keep your face nice and moisturised and also reduce puffed up eyes

5. It's really important to stay hydrated on planes, so ensure you drink lots of liquids such as water and fruit juices. Fizzy drinks tend to cause bloating, and tea and coffee are diuretics so stay away from these. Also alcohol will just intensify the dehydration so perhaps not the best idea if you’re feeling light headed.

6. To look your best after travelling its recommended to wait until the end of the journey before re-touching your make up, simply

because it will look fresher. Keep it simple, limiting yourself to mini’s as these will be all that is allowed in the clear bags at the airports.

7. When many people fly they tend to take the opportunity to catch up on any sleep they have or will lose due to time differences. A sleep mask is really useful if you’re planning a proper sleep, especially a beaded one which will pamper your tired peepers.

8. On long flights, moisturising tissues can be a real relief as they cleanse, cool and refresh, perfect for skin aggravated by the air con.

9. Hosiery with support is one of the best ways to avoid circulation problems on flights, tights in particular help combat swelling in the legs. Support socks are also available for men so they don’t have to waddle off the plane either.

10. And finally, use a good flash balm that will keep the skin richly moisturised and a moisture enriched lipbalm to keep chapped lips at bay.

Do this on your outgoing and ingoing flights and no one will ever even know you’ve been on a plane, Bon Voyage!
