The Top Hairstyle for this Summer
There’s one hairstyle this summer that is literally chopping the hairdressing industry in half, some love, some hate it. It’s this season’s must have crop and the latest celebrity to jump on the bandwagon is ex-Burberry and Harry Potter star Emma Watson. She has finished filming the Harry Potter films and has been released from her modelling obligations for Burberry so she is now free, finally, to do what she wants with her hair.
The official name of the haircut is gamine, which is French for Urchin, and it has been ‘cropping’ up for many years. It became the hallmark cut of the 1960s model Twiggy, and consequently for many of her doting fans. Before that it was associated with Audrey Hepburn, as she made the drastic chop. For some it is an unflattering cut, not everyone can pull off that close crop that emphasises cheekbones and jawlines. It was a mistake for even the beautiful Keira Knightley and the stunning Sienna Miller as both lopped off their hair for film roles, much to the horror of their hair envious fans everywhere.
However it seems to be a really fitting look for Watson, its fresh and flatters her frame, and will no doubt be cooling in the summer heat. She follows in the trail of clippings left by, among others, Carey Mulligan, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams and Renée Zellweger. Mullingan has however recently admitted to not liking her short locks, but cannot currently grow them out due to her premiere commitments. This raises the question how many other stars regret getting the chop this summer?
Cheryl Cole could be a contender as she was recently seen out with her extensions back in, missing that signature choppy bob that has been popping up all over the place. Perhaps she regretted the cut? Long hair is a thing coveted by most women, its versatile and gorgeous if kept in good condition, but does that make it the best way to go. Scarlett Johansson recently joined the choppy bob brigade, cutting of her long locks for the summer.

However, long hair is making a comeback in the form of Ashley Greene, the Twilight star who is set to become Hollywood’s next hot thing. Other stars such as Victoria Beckham, Zoe Saldana and Anne Hathaway are letting their locks grow out. But with the gamine becoming a fixture of A list stars its best to leave this one open and see what summer will bring.
