Barking IG11
IG11 is home to both Upney and Barking underground stations. Between them, they provide services to the District, Hammersmith & City, C2C, and London Overground Lines. London Overground and C2C service provides 8 tph (trains per hour) to Fenchurch street, 2 tph to Gospel Oak, 4 tph to Shoeburyness, 2 tph to Southend Central, and 2 tph to Grays. Although Barking does not, at the moment, have a particularly good shopping area and town centre, the area's development team is working on improvements. One of the main aspects to these improvements is the Barking Learning Centre which has space for 166 apartments and facilities for general education. Right now, the centre is educating people of the area in general literacy and numeracy. In total, the town centre aims to create 4000 new homes making the area an attractive place for commercial development. Plans for the brand new town square were unveiled in 2007. It includes a 240 foot long (80 metre) arcade and a fake ancient wall built by bricklayers using reclaimed marble from salvage yards. There are several pubs in the area, which include: The Barking Dog on Station Parade, The Spotted Dog on Longbridge Road, The Britannia on Church Road, and the White Horse on London Road.
