Exmouth EX8
The country's longest surviving nightclub has its home in Exmouth—Samantha's. Samantha's originally functioned as a cinema, which was converted to a bowling alley in the 1960s and then a small dance club in the 1970s. In 1973 it was converted into a nightclub and has remained so ever since. For a historical sight, visit the quirky little house called A La Ronde which lies on the northern outskirts of town, just off Summer Lane. It was built in the 18th Century by two cousins, Jane and Mary Parminter, who wanted to remind themselves of the exciting travels they had experienced and have a suitable home to display their souvenirs. The cousins were remarkable for their time, as independent and creative women in a male dominated society. Their home has a total of sixteen sides, in order to allow as much light as possible to enter. The design was supposed to be based on the Basilica of San Vitale and it has some interesting interiors, including a shell room. It is now a National Trust property. Some restaurants in Exmouth are Franklins Café Bar and Restaurant, Nico's Manor Cottage Restaurant, Les Saveurs at the Seafood Restaurant and the Swan Inn. Exmouth also has many good pubs in the area including Fat Jax, The Dear Leap, The York Inn, Holly Tree and The Famous Sheep Inn.
